Obituary For William D. "Bill" Bonin
William D. “Bill” Bonin, 92, Carrolltown, formerly of Patton, passed away into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 19, 2023 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born December 11, 1930 in Bakerton, the son of Charles and Eva (Dowey) Bonin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna A. (Christoff) Bonin and sister, Rosalie Magulick. He is survived by his loving children: Kathy (Rick) Bills, St. Benedict; Charles Bonin, Carrolltown, William (Jocelyn) Bonin, Patton; Todd Bonin, Cleveland, OH; James (Karen) Bonin, Byrnedale, Pa; grandchildren: Brandon (Melanie) Bonin, Matthew (Jennifer) Bonin, Tammi (Ray) Yeckley, Richard (Laura) Bills III; great grandchildren: Cameron and Cole Yeckley, Alexis (Brennen) Kelly, Jacqueline Bonin, Matthew Bonin, Jemma Switalski, Tyler Lamont and Reagan Bills; great great granddaughters, Myla Rae Yeckley, Quinnlyn and Finley Kelly and nieces, Pamela Haden and Janet Magulick. He served in the U.S. Army April 18, 1951-March 20, 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Barnes and Tucker Coal Mines after 37 years of service and was the former caretaker for the Punxsutawney Hunting Club. Bill was a member of the Patton Trinity Methodist Church, Patton, past member of the Sinnemahoning Sportsmen’s Club, life member of the Mountain Country Sportsmen’s Club, member of the St. Benedict VFW Post 7783; past member of the Bakerton and Carrolltown Rod and Gun Clubs and member of the Allegheny Mountain Lodge Hunting Camp. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, where he made several trips out West and to Canada for elk and moose hunting. He also enjoyed time hunting with his family at the Punxsutawney Hunting Club and with special friends, Gary Stonebreaker and Paul “Hoagie” Stockdale. Family and friends will be received 4:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. 1004 North Fifth Avenue Patton. Funeral Service 11:00 am Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Patton Trinity Methodist Church, Patton, by Rev. Gary Grau. Committal SS Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be accorded by John White VFW Post 779 and Walter McCoy American Legion Post 614.
