Obituary For Ruth C. Semonich
Ruth C. Semonich, 96, Patton, passed away June 15, 2023 at Haida Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Hastings. She was born February 8, 1927 in Patton, the daughter of Leroy and Elma (Dunegan) Luther. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant sisters, her husband of 54 years, John in 2004; son, Major Robert Semonich in 2010 and brothers, Richard, Robert, Howard and James. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (John) Marinich, Uniontown; grandchildren: Anthony Semonich, Stacie Crabtree, Jessica (Trace) Kittrell; Kimberly (Jeremy) Hardy and David Marinich; great grandchildren: Drew Davis, Mark Crabtree, Evan and Austin Kittrell; great great grandchildren: Ryder and Myles Davis. Ruth was also survived by daughter-in-law, Jeanette Semonich; goddaughter, Melanie Shay and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was employed by Balsinger-Luther Flower Shop, Patton, then by various A & P grocery stores in the Patton/Altoona area for 42 years, retiring in 1974. Ruth was a lifelong member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church; a member of the Senior Choir for 51 years, member of Catholic Daughters Court of Our Lady of Victory #722 for over 75 years. She served as Regent for two years and was town chairman for many years. She received the CDA Award as CDA member of the year of 2011. Ruth was a member of the Patton Music Club for over 65 years having served as President for a number of years. She also, sang with the Johnstown Symphony Choral for 5 years, as well as the Memorial Choir at Queen of Peace. Ruth was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Sacred Heart League. Her hobbies were bird watching and playing Bingo. Family and friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 pm Tuesday, at Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. 1004 North Fifth Avenue Patton, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass 11:00 am, Wednesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton, by Benedictine Fathers. Committal St. Mary’s Cemetery, Patton. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Russell Miller, the nurses, aides and staff at Haida Manor and to the entire team from AseraCare Hospice, who were all so kind and caring for Ruth.
