Obituary For Ronald "Dean" Smith

Ronald D. “Dean” Smith, 88, Patton passed away December 1, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 12, 1933 in Rochester Mills, Pa, the son of Simon and Margaret (Houck) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy M. (Neibauer) Smith and his sister Janet McKee. He is survived by his sister Betty Lou Switzler, Patton, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was 1951 graduate of Patton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS New Jersey. Dean was the owner and operator of Smith Sanitation Company and retired after many years of service. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Patton; Patton Eagles #1244; Patton Sportsmen’s Club; Central District Firemen’s Association; was a State Fire Instructor; and was a life member of the Patton Fire Company; American Legion #614 and VFW #779. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and mowing grass. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm at Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. 1004 North Fifth Avenue, Patton. A Veteran’s service will be held at 6 pm followed by a Firemen’s service at 6:30 pm. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Monday at the funeral home. Rev Alice Tondora and Rev. Joseph Short co-officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by John White VFW Post #779 and Walter McCoy American Legion Post #614 at St. Lawrence Cemetery. Memorial contributions are requested to the Patton Volunteer Fire Company or Patton Presbyterian Church.
