Obituary For James P. Hoover

James P. Hoover, 86, Patton entered into eternal rest December 31, 2020 at Cambria Care Center. He was born April 18, 1934, Patton, the son of E. Paul and Agnes (Smithbower) Hoover. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Imogene (Karlheim) Hoover; daughter Diane Nuss; son-in-law Harry Peles, and brothers Eugene in infancy, Richard, and Albert. He is survived by children: Cynthia (Dr. Bradly) Shollenberger, Birdsboro, PA; Theresa Peles (Harry, deceased), Hastings, PA; Karl Hoover, Patton; Brenda (Steven) Bobby, Frederick, MD; Shirley (Gregory) Miller, Mercersburg, PA; Sharon (Randy) Fisher, Etters, PA; son-in-law Dave Nuss, Cortland, OH; fifteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Leroy Hoover, Patton; Elaine Vescovi, Patton; Corrine McHugh, Roundhill, VA; Mary Wilks, Liberty Boro, PA; Thomas Hoover, Carrolltown; Robert Hoover, Patton and numerous nieces and nephews. He spent his life as a farmer on Orchard Vale Farms. As a young man, he showed Holstein cattle at the Cambria County fair where his cow “Queen” won Grand Champion in 1952. In 1985, he and his partners in Orchard Vale Farms were selected for the Outstanding Conservation Farmer of the Year Award by the Cambria County Conservation District. He was a member, and served as an usher for many years, of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, and a member of PA Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting and gardening; and was known for his remarkable ability to whistle. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, visitation will be private. The family will hold a celebration of life in honor of their parents at a later date. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am Wednesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, by Rev. Jude W. Brady, OSB. Committal St. Lawrence Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Patton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cambria County 4-H, 401 Candlelight Dr. Ebensburg, PA 15931.     So sorry to hear Paul has passed away. I always liked him I know he will be missed by many. May he Rest In Peace. Praying for the family and those close to him. He will be missed. Love cousin Bonnie. 🙏❤️
