Obituary For Donna L. Depto

Donna L. Depto, 86, Patton, passed away October 25, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 2, 1937 in Bakerton, the daughter of Harold Claude and Manila Bay (Smith) Lauver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore P. Depto, Sr., sisters, Charlotte, June and Geraldine, brothers Billy and Harold “Tubby” Lauver. She is survived by her twin brother, Donald, and loving children: Alison (Kenneth) Adams, Jennifer Depto, Natalie Depto-Vesey, Theodore P. Depto, Jr., son-in-law Bryan Vesey; grandchildren: Alexander and Connor Vesey, Sarah, Michael, Matthew and Mark Adams, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Patton High School and received her Bachelor's degree in English at St. Francis University and a Master's degree and ABD from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. After graduating from college, she taught senior English and history at Cambria Heights, retiring after 30 years of service. Donna was a member of Patton Trinity Methodist Church. She was devoted to the Patton Public Library, where she was the former president of the Library Association and contributed greatly to obtaining the grant to build the new library where it stands at present on Main Street. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society, Beta Epsilon Chapter and for years wrote their newsletters. Donna enjoyed sewing, gardening, was an avid golfer, skier and became a world traveler after her retirement. Her most passionate endeavor was the restoration of old houses, renovating her first house, then rebuilding her retirement home in her own vision. At Donna’s request, there will be no viewing. A service for close family and friends will be held at the Patton Trinity Methodist Church. Interment Fairview Cemetery, Patton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Patton Public Library 405 Magee Ave. Patton or Patton Trinity Methodist Church, 501 Beech Ave. Patton. Arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Patton.     This may sound like a cliche, but Mrs. Depto was THAT teacheR. She encouraged, inspired, and complimented good work with constructive criticism and kindness. Of all my high school classes, hers was the one I looked forward to each day. I knew I would do well because she encouraged me to do my best. The world beyond this earth now has a bright new star.

    "Did you ever read Ben Hur ?" A private reference from 50+ yrs ago that we visited once recently, and she taught me at CHHS. Being a SFC English major myself, Mrs. Depto / Donna and I shared many literary conversations at the Patton Library over the years. She will be personally missed. John D. "Mouse" Rowland

    To the family of my favorite teacher; I'm am sorry for your loss. At Cambria Heights HS, I looked forward to only one class: Donna's English class. She inspired me to study, read, and enjoy literature! May her Memory be Eternal!
