Obituary For Dolores Mae Hoover

Dolores Mae (Sabella) Hoover

December 19, 1936 – November 30, 2024

Dolores Mae Hoover, of Patton, formerly of Barnesboro, passed away peacefully at home on November 30, 2024. She would have celebrated her 88th birthday on December 19, 2024.

She was born in Barnesboro to loving parents Romeo Michael "Romey" and Carmella (Caliguri) Sabella. Dolores was the fourth of six daughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two-year-old sister, Dolores Mae “Dolly” Sabella, who passed before Dolores’s birth; her husband of almost 50 years, Harold R. "Hal" Hoover; her father-in-law, Harold A. Hoover; mother-in-law, Carolyn Aldine “Dean” Hoover; her sisters Elizabeth “Honey” Chervenak and Carolyn “Chubby” Ceccoli; and brothers-in-law Louis Blair Chervenak and Daniel Ceccoli.

Dolores is survived by her two children: Dana Hoover and Michael R. Hoover and companion Sharon Woodley of Patton; her former daughter-in-law, T. Renee Kreidler; and her devoted grandson, Harrison Hoover, as well as her granddaughters Elizabeth, Kathryn Mae "Katie," and Mary Grace Hoover. She was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Malcolm, son of Mary Grace.

She is also survived by her sisters Mary Lou "Tootsie" Sabella and Theresa Golias, and brother-in-law John J. Golias. Dolores cherished her niece and goddaughter Angela (Mark) Corte, her nephew Brian J. Golias, and his wife Jennifer and their children Lauren and Andrew.

Dolores was soft-spoken, well-liked, kind, thoughtful, and generous. She was a caring and loving mother and grandmother, and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who loved their time with her just as much.

A 1956 graduate of Barnesboro High School, Dolores loved planning and attending her class reunions to reconnect with classmates. Before her marriage, she worked at the Miner’s Hospital Tuberculosis Clinic in Spangler, Pennsylvania, where she met her dear friend Cecelia Baker. Dolores was a devoted member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Patton.

Dolores enjoyed a happy and social life, often going to lunch and shopping with her grandson and her sister Tootsie. She cherished visits from her grandchildren and great-grandson, and she loved having long phone conversations with her daughter Dana, her sisters, friends, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and relatives. Dolores spent a lot of time with her son Michael, who lovingly cooked for her every day.

She was an excellent cook, famous for her delicious holiday feasts. Her stuffing balls were a family favorite, and everything she made was cherished by those fortunate enough to share her meals. Dolores’s kindness, generosity, and dedication to her family and faith were unmatched, always putting others before herself.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., 1004 N. Fifth Ave., Patton, PA 16668, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton.
