Obituary For George J. "Pappy" Yuknavich
George “Pappy” J. Yuknavich, 91, Patton, passed away May 17, 2020 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 23, 1929 in Bakerton, son of Charles J. and Mary Ann (Mardos) Yuknavich. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Nellie Glinsky; William, Charles and Tony Yuknavich and daughter Norma Jean in infancy. He is survived by his wife Janet (Dietrick) Yuknavich whom he married April 24, 1954; children Linda (Gregg) Crotts, Md; Georgeianne (John) Hines; Mary “Margie” (Ed Karlheim) Dietrick; Jayne (James) Sheehan; Charles J. (Paulette Schenk) Yuknavich, all of Patton; grandchildren: Kathryn (Justin) Willard; Sarah (Mark) Gills; Laura (Rick) Bullock; Amanda (Eric) Driscoll; Russell Dietrick; Jeannette (Ryan) Macaluso; Jaymie Sheehan and Jedidiah Yuknavich; step grandchildren: Christa Hines and Michael Hines; great grandchildren: Cody Eyler; Emma Willard; Paige, Aiden and Jacob Gills; Cloey (Dillon Matthew) Mulligan, Dominic Bullock and a great great grandchild due in October; sister Mary Ciccotelli, Bakerton and numerous nieces and nephews. He retired from Barnes and Tucker as a coal miner after 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church, Chest Springs and Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton and lifetime member of the UMWA. Pappy was an avid fisherman, hunter and clock collector. He loved his dogs, walking, gardening, nightly routine of Domino’s, Patsy Cline and Polka music. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions services will be private. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Patton. Memorials are requested to Patton Ambulance or UPMC Family Hospice. A special thank you to his caregivers Kathy, Judy, Carol, Joyce, UPMC Family Hospice, Peggy and Dr. Russell Miller.
